Post: # 789Post bbvector »

I have owned a 1984 vector for about a year now . Looking for suggestion on prop selection for a good skiing prop/top end. I have a 150 merc 28 pitch. The motor came with dolphin fins on the cavitation plate are these of of any use for this sytle of set up. thanks bbvector. :boating:

I'd say 25. You Prob lose some speed due to less pitch, But your hole shot will be better and you will be able to carry weight better . Remember, Even number Trophy's are Small hub and odd numbered Trophy's are Large Hub. I would keep your 28 chopper for top end. Also I good top end prop would be an SRX. The streams seem to like em alot.

I've got a '83 with a modded out 150, if you wanna snatch their arms out of socket out the hole run a 23 pitch. I threw one on mine just for fun and thought I swallowed my teeth! I normally run a 26 clever but just thought i'd throw that experience out there. Good Luck!

thanks for the tip. What mods are done to your 150 & what rpm do you run with the 26.

I'm running a 2.4 front half including carbs and bigger reeds. I have higher compression heads and interior and exterior porting. Lightweight flywheel, and all the other little goodies... I'm turning around 68 to 7000 with a 26 pitch mercury laser chopper. I'm running the nose cone even with the pad and havent had any problems with blow out or anything. Running a 6 inch manual jack plate. Dual hydraulic steering.

Sounds like your set up is working great what are you seeing for top end speeds?Do you use any cavatation plate mods? Where did you get your steering from? What kind is it ? How much did it cost you?
