Newbie needs advice.
Newbie needs advice.
Hello everyone! I'm a newbie and just purchased a 1989 Vulture XT from Aaron Wachholz. It has a built 225 Yamaha by Eco-tech putting out 340 HP. I bought the boat sight unseen and arranged delivery. I have never driven a Hydrostream before but have had many boats in the past but none or this caliber. I understand this boat went 96 mph but the driver was very experienced. I have no desire to go that fast, at least not now until I can get use to it. My question is can I tame it down for now by adjusting the jack plate? Again unfamiliar with these types of boats and have never been over 65mph in a boat. I did take it out but did not get it planed. The temp light was flashing so I called it a day. I have been reaing the forums trying to learn but understand these boats can be dangerous with an inexperienced driver. Any suggestions of progression? Thank you in advance for any advice.

Re: Newbie needs advice.
These boats are a hand full to drive the best way to learn to drive it is seat time if the motor is werre it was at 96 leave it dont move it.. start out get it on plane and slowly get it up to speed the chine walk side to side movement goes left steer right slightly u feel it come back to center fall right steer left slightly till u figure out how to keep it in the center more trim more movement .. but once u hit the sweetspot if its like mine a 90+ has no movement hardly like butter

Read the "Allison Red Book" for how to handle a high performance V hull. While Allisons and Hydrostreams are different designs, a lot of it carries over.

Re: Newbie needs advice.
I wouldn't try changing setup unless there was something seriously wrong. The fastest setup is usually very close to the safest setup. Find someone in your area that is experienced and let them take you out for a drive, will probably be your best learning experience. And it's Hydro Tech, not Eco tech lol

Re: Newbie needs advice.
I have personally seen that Vulture. You got a SWEET boat there. Did it stay local, or here in Minnesota I should say?
