3 blade or 4 blade prop.

Post: # 16158Post Gibbs87VKing »

Wondering which is better 3 blade or 4 blade prop. I have a Vking with 87 200 Mercury. Don't know much about props? I would assume 3 blade for speed and 4 blade for towing. I have a 26 chopper. I want more hole shot and more speed. Thanks guys!

Build yourself a 2 speed gearcase. Patent it. Prop selection is going to be a trade off, you'll find you want a different prop for different reasons and conditions. Lower pitch, more blades, better holeshot. Higher pitch, faster speeds. I just changed from a 30 pitch 3 blade chopper to a 23 pitch 3 blade chopper because I wanted holeshot, and I didn't need 90+ mph yet, not that comfortable in the boat. Still getting 75 mph out of it, and holeshot is much better. Plus I gained better handling and it stays on plane at lower speeds.

I m thinking of a 23 chopper for the family fun. You know tubing and skiing. My 26 chopper is nice but i want more speed. This prop came with the boat and is not in the best shape. Someone overworked it, so its thin. Thanks for your help idvette.

The 23 worked great for me all weekend, pulled a tube around with plenty different sized riders with no problem. My boat's a little smaller, and I have a newer (than you) EFI motor, but your Vking should like a 23.

I love my Trophy Plus.

Nice hole shot, no cavitation, smoother and reduced chine walk. Top speed is decent as well.
