Re: Vision setup
That's the no feedback. It's nice that you don't have the pull of the torque steer, but you see the bad part, ya can't turn the damn wheel.

Re: Vision setup
It wasn't like that before I installed the jackplate, is it because the motor is higher?

Re: Vision setup
Partially, yes. As the torque steer increases, that steering system will get harder to turn. I had that system in a boat with a 90 horse motor, and I took it out, it just steered too hard.idvette wrote:It wasn't like that before I installed the jackplate, is it because the motor is higher?

It has to be near impossible to drive a high performance V-hull effectively with that steering. Your steering inputs need to be sharp and quick, overcoming the clutch in that system just won't allow those type of inputs.

Re: Vision setup
Well that's not the best news I've had...
The previous owner was able to drive this boat over 80mph, when he took me out it was a windy day, we hit 77 but backed out because of the gusts. I didn't like the way the boat handled, was only able to push it to about 70, but it was all over the place, lack of experience was what I thought, motor height was the general concensus. So I put a 6" jackplate on it, motor was bolted to the transom. When I took it out on saturday, it handled a lot better, got it up to 65 before there was any drama, thought I had fixed the problem for the most part what's the difference between feedback and non-feedback steering?

Re: Vision setup
The NFB has some type of clutch setup in the helm. It's designed to eliminate the pull on the wheel from engine/prop torque. It does serve that purpose, but also eliminates the feel in your hands. You need to know how hard the steering is pulling, it's a valuable setup tool, and will also warn you just before you reach blowout speed(when the torque suddenly goes away).

Re: Vision setup
Is there a part number, or series type that I should look for? Like I said, mine is a teleflex system, I see many other boaters use teleflex, do they build both types?

Re: Vision setup
They've had several systems over the years. I'm not up on all the styles that they sold (I'm a Ride Guide kinda guy), but usually parts are not interchangable from one style to the next.
If you can ID which system you have, I could probably help research it for you.

Re: Vision setup
I'll poke my head under the dash right now while I can. We're supposed to be getting terrible thunderstorms any time, otherwise I'd be on the lake lol
