Post: # 13240Post ConFuseee »

:slap:

You can use a variety of coring materials for a core. If you don't want wood, there is foam material made especially for this. Your boat was designed to have a core. It needs a proper core.

You can run a butt load of 1708 in there but why? When sealed correctly it wont get wet so there is no worry there. And plus all that fiberglass you will need to get the same strength will far outweigh balsa core.

Long story short, Just use balsa core. Its lighter, stronger, and way faster to put down. Just seal it up good and there will be no worries of it rotting out.

Here is an ok picture of my Vulture with the core down the pad.

viper needs core through out bottom of hull. underneath one gunnel across to the other. the floor sits in the groove or floor register across and on top the stringers.

Here are some pics another board members Vipers. You've done the hard work already, young man. I encourage you to finish it with high quality materials. Down the road (or down the shoreline,) you'll be glad you did.
