2.4 20 inch mid

Post: # 327Post Enticer1 »

Has anyone removed the mid housing from a 2.4 Black motor. I have removed the nuts and lock-washers from the four studs coming from the power head. I also have backed out the three 9/16 bolts at the rear of the mid plate. I even removed the lock-ring at the bottom of the lower swivel bracket where the lower mounts are. Even though I am going to replace the mid housing ( its cracked ) I still don't feel comfortable taking a hammer to it. Befor you ask, yes I did drop the lower unit first.
Am I missing something ?

Are you or did you pull the powerhead? I think there are 2 more nuts on the front if pulling the powerhead. I'll look and see what I have in the shop tonight so I can compair but I can't picture it.

Powerhead comes off first, there are 10 studs holding it on. Then you split the exhaust adapter so yo can remove the upper mount nuts. Remove the u shaped strap at the bottom and nuts off the lower mounts, slide the mid off.

Update, I got the can off and no you don't have to pull the power-head. 7 fasteners total, 4 studs and 3 bolts. This time I put Never-Seize on the studs
