I ground the lamination off of the inside of the transom up to the splashwell. Then I drilled into the wood with 1/8" bit in different areas all over the place to check for soft, wet or rottin wood which I didn't find any. When I drilled, I made sure the holes were angled downward. When I was done with that I coated whe wood with git rot and made sure all the holes were filled. It took about 3 days for it to cure which is good because the wood soaks it all up. I did all this before I put the core in too so it got a good cure time. There's 2 ways to do a transom. Removing the deck or cutting the splashwell. I'm not a believer in cutting the outer skin. Get the inner skin off and post some pics. So you know, small stress cracks arn't really that abnormal. Get some pic's man!
Rick
Sounds good Rick. I promise to get some good pictures up by the weekend. Dealing with a computer meltdown at home right now. May have found a place to work on the boat. A heated aircraft hanger a friend of mine has that he would be willing to rent. We will see how that goes, but it would be the best solution.
I got some news yesterday and I'm not sure if it's good or bad but in the long run I will have more time to work on the boat. I'm laid off till February. I have been sanding a little but not much, tomorrow I will get some pics. Monday I'm going to Chicago with a buddy to pick up a Action hull.

If you still have the shop space I will rent you and some of that space to work on the Vulture if I can.
Man, I really need to get working on that seeing all this work your getting done and all the work i'm not.
I talked to the owner of the building yesterday. As of now Rapid Marine "whom I'm employed by" has first right or refusal on the building. This means if I want to rent it they have to ok it, witch they won't so right now I'm ok using it but I can't rent it. So I can't have anymore boats in the shop. I think I might have someone else try and put it in there name but I run the risk of loosing my job for good.

Yeah, You dont want to take that risk. Its one thing to be laid off for a bit but its another to be out a job completely. I might not have a place to work on my boat now for a few days in 2 weeks. They guy is changing his mind on me now. Its more his wife I think. He was gonna let me use a spot in his shop while him and the wife went out of town for 2 weeks for the holidays but thats looking like a no go. I just might have to wait til spring to do anything or until it warms up some anyways. Say in the 40's or 50's maybe.
Hippie I thought it was better to grind outside in the cold, you end up working up some body heat and the extra layers of clothes help keep the dust off your skin, I did mine last winter about this time outside.
Some update pics for ya.
Just lots of sanding, it's amazing what 24 grit sandpaper does to gel but it still takes a while. Once I get the gel off I will be able to check the hull integrity better. I will finish sand with 80 gritt then I will be applying duratec primer. I still havent decided if I will use gel or paint. I'm pritty sure the bottom will be white and the top will be a dark blue done in paint.

Looks great 77Viper, I was working in the garage all night. Cut into the core layer and it all needs replacing. I'm not suprised. I see lots of chiseling in my need future. Time is free. Might have an airplane hanger heated to work in this winter. crossing my fingers.
