need help guys
need some help guys, ive been keeping an eye out for a motor as i continue the vector resto. i ran across this motor locally and was wondering if it would be a good match and starter motor for the vector. keep in mind im on a budget and would be happy just getting in the water later upgrading
my final goal ,after plenty of seat time, would be low 80's mph range
any info would be appreciated
thanks

Re: need help guys
Both my motors for my viper are 2.4s and have been bulletproof so far. It's not a bad price. I think the 135 gearcase is going to be a 2.0-1 gear ratio rather than a 1.87-1 like a 150 and up. You will need to run real tall props to make up for the gear ratio and that can be real expensive once you get into the top end props. I'm thinking something in the 30 pitch or higher. I will check and see if I can find out for sure on the gear ratio, other than that if compression is good I would say go for it.

Re: need help guys
Talked to the guy with the motor, he said compression was 135_140 in all 6 cylinders. One cylinder has a sleeve though. Has papers on powerhead and motor. Has 2:1 gears. He turned 26 chopper on a bass boat 70mph.
Thoughts? Shy away?
Gonna go hear it run next week before he takes it off boat.

Re: need help guys
My thoughts?
Since it's still on the boat, drive the boat. You can't hide leaking trim systems, for example, when your in the lake for a while. If all is well, it seems like it will be all the motor you need to go 80+.
If something is not quite right, pass on it. Another deal will turn up before your ready to hang a motor on the transom.... maybe a 2.5 with the right gears.
...and always check the compression yourself. It's easy and it tells you so much. Best of luck!

Re: need help guys
I see nothing about horsepower in the ad. A 135 gearcase will be 2:1. To me, 1800 bucks for that motor, especially this time of year, is just way too much.

Re: need help guys
Pic taken on fly, got all the gauges steering shifter and switch panels cut and fit. Went over hull with putty to get pin holes out. Gonna let hull sit in sun a few days to let primer shrink up make sure I got all cracks out
