I don't know the technical name for the wings on the motor but will it help in any way?

I'm assuming you are talking about on the cavitation plate. Yes they will help plane out faster and keep it on plane at a slower speed. The downside is they can "dig" into the water in corners but with a 20' boat I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks Chet, If I get dig will raising the engine on the Jackplate help? My old Vulture just had the motor on the back of the boat and I could not adjust anything. This will be different having a way to dial it in better. Looking forward to some seat time. Bill

I am using a Bob's Stabilizer Plate, and it works great. Better hole shot, way less porpoising at those lower speeds where it occurs. No effect on top end, and I have noticed no digging in while turning. Here's a link.http://www.bobsmachine.com/Products/transom_stabilizer.cfm
