Vegas set up?

Post: # 501Post 77viper »

I have a 91 vegas with a carb. 200 merc. I have a 12" jackplate in my shop and was wondering if anyone has tried this or close to this setup.

I'm also looking for any suggestions as to what prop has been tried.

As of now the motor is on the transome and is running a 25 pitch high five. Due to some issues I haven't and can't test yet so I'm going in blind but want to hit the water running. :boating:

First a disclaimer; I'm no expert [understatement]...but I do have a Vegas w/ a 200 merc.
I notice from your other thread that you probably want to ski with this boat. Well, it will probably will never ski any better than it does as it is set up now...but who wants ski all the time?

For the XT, the general consensus is a chopper style prop. These surfacing props will give you the bow lift you will desire to fly the hull. Usually with less set back than you'll have though, so I don't what other prop might work well. I certainly don't know if you'll get good performance with your plate, but if it were mine, I would definitely give a try.

By the way, I see that you "got Merc", but do ya got solid motor mounts, tight steering, and other safety equipment? :D

Try a Trophy, They pretty good bow lift and work pretty good when surfaced too. And maybe an SRX for top end speed if you got the motor up , Stay away from Cleaver props. There only good for Top end, with Light loads. (Note: I don't have a Hydrostream Vegas just typing from what I have heard and read) :)

Thanks for the responses and any imput is welcome. I'm in a odd situation and can't work on the boat yet so I'm just buying some parts.

So far I've just went through my shop and I did find another jack plate a 6" but it's not hydrolic.

I have a extra sea star pro sytem so setback will be able to be changed easy. I have ordered a set of solid mounts and a nosecone.

I work at a merc dealer so I'll check and see what we have for trophy props. Thanks again.

I tried to "barrow" a set of dealer plates today but that didn't work. I'll se if I can take it out tommarow.

As of now it has a 25 pitch high five and is rigged with dual cable steering but if I move it back I'll need longer cables so thats why I'm going with hydrollic. That and switching jackplates sucks with cable steering.

I know it's not going to be a great ski boat but I'm just hoping for a good comprimize. I went to pick up a malibu flightcraft that a guy I worked with is selling but when I got there it was in terrible condition. Green treated wood in the transome and it wasn't all covered with glass. To add to it he was saying how to make a big wake is just pull the drain plug and let water in the hull great with exposed plywood!!!
