silkeysak wrote:What is the average cost of a recore, and transom replacement. I want to refinish my hull, but not until I check the core. It seems solid on a rubber mallet tap test, but you never know. I can tell someone replaced the floor at least before the last gelcote redo, but it's flaking now, and I want to do something over the winter. Fortunately here in Savannah we don't get a bad one.
Depends if your doing it yourself or not. I have about $650 into supplies so far and I will end up spending more yet once I get further along. I still have to buy the paint for the bottom, sanding supplies to prep the bottom, buy another sheet of ply for the floor, and some other stuff. If you pay someone it can really get spendy.
Remember, I have a 20 foot boat so a shorter boat might not be as much and if the bottom of your boat is all good then you wont need paint and body work supplies. I would say about $2k in supplies/materials as a high estimate for a vking or something. Then again, It depends if your going all wood or composite.

Thanx Hippie. I have 35 years carpentry experience, so I see myself doing this. I am going to check under the deck, and hopefully the core is good. If not, I will focus on that first and then go for cosmetics. Fortunately I don't have the bottom issues that you have. The small damage I had, I took care of with marine tex. If I could get by with 650.00 - 800.00 on the recore and transom materials, I would be happy. Right now I'm crossing my fingers, hoping it was done by the previous owner before he redid the deck. From what I read, balsa is the way to go, if it's done right. What did you decide?

It looks like a well thought out job. I must say though, it looks like you really had to bust your ***. Did the recore cost include all the cinder block? It seems like you need a lot of peripheral aid in materials to pull this off. GREAT WORK. Congratulations!
