You guys keep in mind that my pricing is only from one supplier , i remember seeing balsa for 13 bucks a 2x4 sheet which is 7 bucks cheaper per sheet then easterns price. also it may take thiner or thicker stocks to give the same striengh as 1/2 inch balsa. I will post comparison to duplicate 1/2 inch balsa as soon as i have all info available.

Here is a good link to the article previously mentioned.

Original link in the post had the word article misspelled.

After spending hours and hours on reading alot of stuff on composite cores i am gonna take a break and actualy do some work on the vector. I bought a resparator and tyvek suit and ready to grind. I am gonna cut out a previous patch job.
It looks like the core was gone when this repair was done. Someone just stuffed the hole with cloth and resin filling the missing core void.
From the bottom it looked like someone had rubbed the coat off from beaching it and painted over

I think the bad spot was cut out then filled from the outside with alot of resin and a little glass. Maybe a couple layers of glass can reinforce the patch.?

I had a spot like that in about the same spot. I ground it smooth on the inside and added 3 layers of mat to the inside. Then 2 more under my core. I then was able to just smooth the outside out with some dura tec p14 I think it was. Anyway it's a filler for below the water line.
I'm shure there is a better way to fix it but that's how I did it.

The outside is smooth and cannot tell it has ben patched except ror the paint. I dont plan on a full paint or gel because it looks fairly good now so i am hoping just a couple layers of glass inside will do.

I have been reading alot of articles written by a marine surveyor that is against core construction in hulls. His name is David Pescoe.

Check out some of the stuff in (core and structural issues) but don't stop there.
