Rick, I'm all set. I got your e-mails back. Thanks again. I have been looking for a place that sells the Closed Cell Foam. I fould one in CT. I figure about (4) 48" X 48" sheets. They sell them for 97.00 a piece. Shipping from there is 135.00. Totalling about 525.00 Resin Epoxy is about 98.00 a galllon and hardner is about 35.00. About how much resin, hardner and cloth will I need? Trying to get an Idea of foam vs balsa. Leaning towards the foam. Bill

24x48" 3/4 Bulsa $29.00 at a place here in Minneapolis. They also carry all of the resin and stuff. Might be cheaper to order or from them as it wouldnt be as far away from you.

http://www.expresscomposites.com/foamcore.html

That is the page with the core and other composite stuff on it.

Hope that helps. I am sure I will be getting all of my stuff from them as Chet recommends them and they are local for me.

Thanks for the product link Hippie. Can't wait to get going. My 3 boys are 18, 17 and 14. Instead of taking away from my time, like you, they are eager to help. Think you'll be done by the spring?

I hope to have it ready for the water by spring but shooting for early summer. Work has been less than busy so we will see. I do hope to have it all cleaned up by the end of the month hopefully though and ready to recore it and put new transom in.

The Balsa? 3/4 inch? Is that what's in it originally? For some reason I thought it was 1/2 inch? I plan to cut into a section this weekend to see how bad it is. I'll post what I find. Bill

I think its 3/4 but I could be wrong. Maybe Chet or someone else will chime in and let us know what they used but for some reason I seen people on S&F recommend 3/4".

Hi Bill, looks like you got your puter fixed. It's 1/2 inch. That foam sounds a little pricey, shop for that stuff. Save some money and use poly or a little better than that vinylester. One of the reasons I went with foam because mine isn't a trailer queen. People getting in and out dripping wet, weather and what not. Foam will not soak it up. I'm going to find my invoice to see how much the foam was. I know the first supplies were $400 and some change which included foam, stichmat 5 gls of poly and hardener and stuff. I just used poly because it's 30 yrs old and now that it redone it will out live me! lol be in touch Bill.

The guys at express come through again today. My sister went there to pick up some gel cote. I called ahead and told them she was stopping by and would have a baby with her so they would have it ready. First thing she said when she got into the shop was how nice they were and that they wouldn't let her carry it out to the car. As well as having it all ready.

1/2" bulsa is the way to go 3/4 is overkill 3/8 is a bit thin for a lake boat. I went through 8 sheets of 24x28 and 16 gallons of resin, this was on my viper.

One thing I was told is that resin by itself isn't waterproof, that's why I gel coted the entire inside.
