Re: 79 Vulture Recore
That would have been great. Expect to get a lot done this weekend. Temps in the mid 40's. I hope to have it prepared to core by early next week. Finally all the core is out. How's the Viper lookng? Haven't seen too much posted lately about it. Bill

Re: 79 Vulture Recore
The grinding continues. Here are some pictures of where I am at. I was questioning whether the core needed redoing. The first pictures answers that question pretty decisively. The next pictures are of Anthony (My son) grinding and a final picture of where we are at. About 1 or 2 more nights of grinding and we should be ready for the build. How much time you will spend on a core replacement should not be under estimated. I fortunately, really enjoy the work. The hours just fly by for me. Hippie, the plywood pieces ended up coming out pretty good. I used a 1 inch chisel and slowly worked the edge until I could break the resin seal and popped them off.

Re: 79 Vulture Recore
Thanks Hippie and ccrick. I am getting real excited about getting it on the water. The next 10 weeks will fly by with the list of work I still have to get done. Enjoying every part of it. Even the grinding. Keeping the work area and clothes as clean as possible by using the shop vacuum on everything after every grinding session helps. I have a desk job and the arms still itch a bit under the dress shirt though. Rick, I think I have decided to go with closed cell foam instead of balsa similar to you. The decision was easy when I thought of what my use was (Waterskiing) and the fact that I will never have to worry about core rot again. For resin it is Vinylester. Still up in the air on marine plywood or Okuome. Okuome is twice as much money. I need advise on how to cut the stringers to the correct height. I have the old ones still to help. Do I try to get them the correct height when cutting or make them a little higher and try to plain them off. Is there an easy way to make a router with a cradle that can move along the floor at the right height and trim them or just cut as close as possible and sand down and keep fitting a temporary floor piece to check height? I know I can get it right but any advise would help. Bill

Re: 79 Vulture Recore
I think if you look at Chets viper thread he made a jig that just slides across the floor edges or whatever. Someone else did the same in there vking too. I could be wrong though. I would have to go thread searching. lol Been a long day icky rainy day here so memory is a bit clouded right now.VultureNo2 wrote:I need advise on how to cut the stringers to the correct height. Re: 79 Vulture Recore
Jig and a router is how I cut my stringer height. Worked good. I just used a good real marine grade 1/2 ply on mine. It is way better than orignal ply used and will outlast it to. It'll out last us Bill. I hope we're still streamin at 80 yrs old! lol Make the stringers high. better to have more than not enough. If I ever do another one, I will use vinylester too.I,ve been thinking of getting my hands on a viper for my Daughter in the future here. Just a thought. Keep it up Bill but don't burn yourself out on it!
