Any simple ways of checking?? How would a guy check the transom?

first thing i do is trim the motor up, and use the lower unit as leverage to see if there is any flex in the transom. it should be solid, no flex. if it does flex, its probally bad.

and as far as the core? I tyhink its going to be hard to tell on the transom... there is a large piece of diamond plate aluminum covering most of the transom... which now thinking about it could be trying to hide something instead of preventative measure...

That's awesome. As for that center panel, me being 6 foot 2 I might just pass on it myself. Would be handy though.

and i kinda like that center panel, I got myself a radio /cup holder to go where he's got his center panel< BUT I "m short and ................MOBILE..........

Welcome to the Forum. Nice looking boat. I also saw it on Craigslist. Listen to the guys. check the core. If not sure, replace it. It will take a bunch of work, but to know it is solid for the next 30 years is the only way to go. Check out some of the threads on cores that have let loose. Not pretty. Bill

It took a bit to find but this is what can happen with a bad core.


If there is a plate on the transom it's not the best sign. Take one of the lower transom bolts out and dig around with a sharp screwdriver. It should be nice and firm, if you get any water out or if you can sink the screwdriver into the wood you need a transom.

As for the core most of them will rot down low in the hull, as in the pad. There should be a hole on the floor where the bilge pump is. I would cut some of the fiberglass off the top of the core there and see what you find. If it's dry and light color all you need to do is put a small piece of glass over it, if it's wet you need a core. It's a lot of work but we can and will help you through it.

We are not trying to scare you or bag on your boat as just about everyone of us has been where you are. It sucks to buy a boat then find out it needs a bunch of work but we are trying to keep you and anyone that rides in your boat safe.

Nice looking boat! I think that's a Vector not a V-king though.
Is the pad flat or concave?

Its a vking. I can tell for one how much space is in it compared to vector.
