You didn't ask, but if it was my boat, I'd finish the season. But then I'd remove the floor to expose the core. I think you will be able to get more competitive bids since it will be much easier to see now much effort it will take if it needs a new core. Of course, if you keep reading this forum, you'll end up doing it your self.
that is the plan. run it till ice comes then block it at the boat guys shop. how much is the core materiel going to cost? im going to help him do the job to bring down costs. and i want the gratification!
I would say the material cost would be about a grand. You will have a initial cost of about $600 for the majority of materials but the little things after adds up.

For what ever it cost to redo the core, floor and maybe transom is well worth it for a lifetime of fun for you and your family, very nice viper and welcome to the forums
Chet hit it on the nose as far as material cost. I had right at $1000 wrapped up in mine before I even finished grinding. I had an experienced guy lay in the new stuff though...so theres some labor investment as well. Nice looking bruiser viper. Theres a few of us around here that run this particular hull a little faster than we should.

Wow! Exactly! Just when u think u got it all covered u find more and more that u need. It never ends! But if u take your time and think things out you'll have it exactly how u want it in the end.

81 vector....complete restore....1991 7 pedal 200 slightly modded ALWAYS under construction
If it is shifting into reverse close to the neutral detent it is most likely a shift cable adjustment. Try moving the round tumbler backwards a couple turns at motor end.
