Water Pressure?

Post: # 9207Post blowitup »

Just purchased Vector with 200hp mercury and water pressure with muffs on at idle 0-1psi(water comes out of exhaust and 3/8 line off of head),3000rpm 3-5psi.So i thought impeller was junk, replaced impeller, gaskets, housing, plate.Same results.Any ideas???

If you sucked sand or debris into your motor it can clog the tube going to your gauge. I just had it happen to me, and I had to clear that line. I'd check that first, before I got crazy with anything else. It could have happened before you bought it. If it has a low water pickup, sometimes the muff doesn't feed properly and you have to submerge it in a big trough or go directly into the intake tube on the lower unit.

It's hard to get a good reading running on a hose. In the water 3-5 is good at idle up to 20 at 5000. Some gauges aren't the most accurate either.

I hear ya, I finally grabbed my viper from storage and it's rained or been too windy every day.

Even if the gauge is good, if the tube coming off the motor is clogged with sand or debris, you won't get a good reading. On the hose, even at idle, I get at least 15-20lbs. of pressure. In the water, at idle, 3lbs. or less. At running speed, I get 30-35lbs.

I'm with 77Viper on the hose reading. It is hard to get a good reading off the hose aswell as the muff kits aren't overly reliable as for solid pressure. I have three muff kits and 2 of them read low and the other reads higher then the others.
