I got the transom out last night and am waiting on material to put it back in. I had a little extra time tonight to play with the design I had been thinking about. I had some thick cardboard that was a pain to cut so I will be getting some rosin paper tomorrow to get a better shape. The cockpit will be about 24" wide with the capability of having 2 seats "no more sitting on the nitrous bottles". The rear seat will come out and a cowl will be made for races.
The 40+ pounds of wet wood.

The boat is looking good cant wait to see it finished. Have you ever done buisiness with LBI fibergass in Groton, CT. I found their site and are a little cheaper than Mertons.
I have only used http://expresscomposites.com/ , they are about a hour away so I pick up the big stuff and have them ship the rest. They are great as far as customer service is concerned.

A few others here have used them as well with great experiences and I will also be using them plus they are local for me as well.
I give Express Composites an A+. Tomas is a big help there. He didn't get frustrated by me and all my beginner questions. Also, delivery is super fast. Every order arrived the next day. Prices were reasonable. I highly recomend them. Bill

I will be gel coating the glass to keep it clean and will grind where the stringers and other braces willl be and didn't want to grind the stitchmat to thin so I added a layer of csm to the core and where the braces will be.
Then the gel, I wanted to keep any oil out og the boat so to this point I would just wear socks in the boat with the gel I can wear shoes in it again.
Question for all that have re-cored ??
Why does the core NOT go beyond that first chine up to the outer edge ? ( where bottom meets side hull )
that is still part of the running surface and wouldn't it be just as thin as the rest of the bottom ??
if you were doing a common boat that would be just as thick layed glass as the rest of the bottom
just currious
Thanks

The viper-vector core is a lot wider then the vking and vulture. I can't say for sure why but my guess is once on plane it's out of the water. The glass is a little thicker on the outside.
Tim did Scott get a hold of you?

I understand the out of the water part
but it is still part of tying the whole structure together
when you punch 200-300+ horses especially higher hp and rough water there is a lot of flex
I would think that would be a sheer point/line
maybe I'm over thinking this
Yes Scott called and left a message
I'll have to call him back , no rush sheds not done yet

I think it's got something to do with the way the floor fits into the register. Mine was pretty thick in that area. With the floor in place properly, you'll see a very strong structure.

I spoke to John @ Hydrostream Canada about this the other day. He told me that I do not need to put anything in the wings. I removed the original foam boxes and simply replaced them with a 3" tall 6' long 1/2" stringer. From what I hear this is not needed but it makes me feel a bit more comfortable and also makes for a functional ski locker.
I was a little suprised to hear that you can get away with nothing there. I can flex the hull a little with only my hands when the stringers are not in place...
