LET THE RIGGING BEGIN!! AE-21
I'm finally getting re-started on my AE-21 project. The boat has been derigged down to the bare hull and carpet. Gelcoat has been high speed wheeled with 3M Finess, I may have to cut a little deeper where the bow was exposed to the sun or I may clear the bow where there's some fading. I'm going to remove the fuel tank, cut away the flimsy transom knees and glass in some new/thicker transom knees. The AE-21 only has 15 1/4" of width on the transom between the "pod" extensions. After making lots of phone calls to Jackplate manufacturers, Detwiler was the ticket. Their ALL IN ONE hyd. Jackplate is 15 1/4" wide by 14" tall which will fit perfectly between the "Pods". Everyone else (Bob's, CMC, Stainless Marine, T & H, etc.) were all 16.5" or wider. I ordered a Detwiler 8" hyd jackplate along with their 4" setback brackets..I imagine they will arrive in about 1 week. I also ordered Bobs Machine Shop transom backing plates. In my spare parts bin, I have a T & H hotfoot and some Quicksilver gages (removed from my old Pulsare when I redid that boat). As I'm on a budget, I may use them just to get the boat on the water. I'll still need a shifter, wiring harness, water pressure and temp gage. I'll also keep the NFB teleflex steering for now..til I can afford some Sea Star Pro! So the work begins at the stern!!
