I watched a youtube video of "pyro"'s (on s n f) 'stream with a 2.4 running 8000 rpm. just wondering, since it's winter and i need a project anyways, what would it take for my 2.4 xri efi to run like that? is it even possible, or is his motor a completely different animal? love those revs.....

If yours is a EFI there will be a rev limiter in the ecu, I don't know what it's set at but close to 6500. Even with the nitrous and a 26 pitch prop I can only get about 7700 rpm out of my 2.4, and that's with a light viper. The 2.4 doesn't breath as well as a 2.5 so it's limited on rpm before they run out of steam.
I see it's a bridgeport, that is a whole different animal than a fishing motor. To make a regular motor spin up a little better search for cherry 2.4 by T-rex.

I build car motors all the time, so I know what it takes to get them to rev. But 2 stroke modifying is new to me.... Can I just get a reprogrammed ecu and spin the wee out of it? Or is there airflow/ignition/injector upgrades or modifications that will be advantageous?

Wow, most of those are simple mods just to improve airflow. Besides cutting the heads, really, there's nothing I can't do out in my shed lol... Looks like I might have to bust open my "parts" powerhead and introduce it to my die grinder . Still limited by my ecu though, is there a factory one I should look for? Or a specific aftermarket one? Thanks for the link btw, I'll put it to good use I'm sure

The big difference is the exhaust port. The BP has a large port requiring a bridge in the middle hence the name bridge port. It was mercury's racing engine before the 260. If you can find a ecu from one it would be a step in the right direction, otherwise check with Brucato http://www.brucatosvs.com/acu.html
Cool stuff, thanks for the help. I'll be keeping my eyes open over the winter months for a few things now.... Jack plate, props, ecu, lol.... Can't wait to get it wet again!
