umpba meeting and river run

Post: # 6212Post 77viper »

Sat October 2nd we are having a meeting to set next years race schedule and possibly some rule changes. The meeing will start at 9:00 am at Whiskey River in St peter. After the meeting some of us are going down to New Ulm to run the river. I would like to invite anyone interested in ether becoming a club member or if you just want to go on the river run to let me know.

If anyone hasn't herd of us we are just a bunch of guys that get together about once a month on a deserted lake and rip it up for a while. We do have a couple sanctioned races each year and are looking at having 5 races next summer.

One of the members has a nice concrete landing in his back yard and we go up river through no mans land. There were 5 boats that went out yesterday and said it was a blast with minimal floaters.

Hippie I have been having problems with my email, so I didn't get it.

I would figure there would be a lot of stuff floating too but I guess not. I was on the river 2 weeks ago "my first time in a GW invader" and it was clear. I don't run rivers much at all so I don't know but if the river is over it's banks won't most of the stuff get caught in the trees?

I run rivers all the time and no that's not the case........as the river rises it pickes up stuff and floats it downstream so there is always thing floating......the higher the river the more floaters there are. Most get caught on shore so as the river rises more of the things that have been caught on shore return to floating. Also the beaches on a river are much more unstable, always moving and changing, causing things to constantly become dislodged and move downstream. Unlike lakes where things tend to float to the sides and as the lake recedes the floaters tend to get lodged on shore and stay there. The end result is a lake after it resedese will actually be cleaner than a river. Also a high river means faster water and more movement of objects on shore into the water
