My GT200 Build

Post: # 3466Post QuarterHorse »

Some of you have seen my thread over in S&F but I'll condense it a little for over here.

Found a deal on a '90 GT200 for my Vector. I figured it was a little more fitting than the Merc I6 115. :D

It started by leaving late at 4:30AM with a friend of mine from central Iowa. We headed to Wisconsin first to snag my motor, and he was trading his '94 75HP Mariner for a '78 Champion Bass Boat with a '79 150 X-Flow.

The weather was nothing but freezing fog and slow, white knuckled driving. About an hour and a half North on our trip at around 6AM my drivers side tire had a belt slip and tear my box side up.

Got stuck in the front yard of the guy I got the motor from. Some wicked attempts going through the snow, some digging, cursing, and more full throttle attempts I made it. It was a treat.

Getting back into Iowa crossing the Mississippi!

We had to make a stop NE of home about 2 hours away in Cedar Rapids to make the swap for my friends Mariner and his new set up. He's dumping the boat and keeping the motor for his Forester Rebel set up he's re-doing.

Image

Got back home, dropped off his boat, grapped the cherry picker, got back to my house around 9PM, and un-loaded the girl. Need to break it down, fix a few things, and get it on the Vector. Should haul the mail, and I'm shooting for turn key reliable, nothing wild in the build.

Got it torn down and got the Merc controls out
Image

Got the Johnny Rude controls in loosely. Just gotta get the throttle cable hooked up to the hot foot and out of this control box.

The block went out last week to get machined in Florida.

If money allows I'll spend some coin on a good prop and we'll go hunting for 90+mph on the water next season. :D

I also got a phone call today from Sam, it's not news I wanted to hear. I'm looking at 6 sleeves or a different newer finger ported block, just not sure what I want to do. The motor has the 30 series Weisco's in it, so I'm out 6 pistons at this point, and I'm just sick, but still I got a deal on the motor, just not AS good a deal.

I really need to get my Glastron and Merc 115 sold so I can fund this thing and get it out of Sam's hair, or hit the lotto, I'd be fine with either. :D

So that's where I'm at so far, bitter sweet I suppose.

You betcha! Sam is an awesome guy to deal with and would recommend anybody needing OMC stuff done to hit him up. I'm going to try like hell to have this done by May so I don't miss any boating, we'll see how it plays out. Just need to sell the Merc which would help big time.

Sorry guys, didn't see the posts.

Phil, I'm getting WAY antsy to get it.

Hippie - I sold the Merc a little while ago.

The motor hits the dyno Tuesday, we'll see what I can scrape up to get down there. I had some professional problems and am now looking for some income. I have a good feeling something soon will change for the better, but I'm still waiting.

Anywho, can you tell I'm getting antsy?

Its the cannon style. Not the newest but I believe the 8 pin. I thought about hanging onto it for a just in case but I could sell it I suppose.
