Looking at picking up a 175 efi merc for my 89 vision.....gonna get a sports master gear case and 15 in mid.....would love to hear the pros chime in here.

Its perfectly fine.
I would answer this but im sure someone else here could much better answer it then I could.
A 15" (16" in my case. Its an OMC thing) mid would be nice for me so I could get my motor lower (Not have it up so high to get right prop height) plus it wont sit so high on the transom there causing less stress on it. But a 20" should work just fine as long as you can get the motor up high enough. Try something like 2" jackplate just so you can get the motor up there. I wouldnt imagine you need a whole lot of setback with that short boat.

Thanks so much! That makes alot of sense. I'll start with 2 inches ...hopefully I can get a few pros to chime in as I'm very new to this style of boating and would rather not shorten the life of my engine running a inferior ratio/ oil
