Thank god
Hey guys,
I just found this site. I have been running a 1987 Hydrostream Vegas for a few years now and I have been looking for a good resourse for some specific info. I am located in New Brunswick Canada and I am not aware of any other Hydros in the area. I have completly restored my boat on my own the only thing left is a transom and I am planning that project for this winter. I am running an 87 185 Evinrude VRO with a 24" Chopper on an 8" setback. I GPS'ed her a couple of weeks ago and got 69.9 MPH. I currently have a 25" shaft on my motor and am looking hard for a 20". If I can find one I will start with some performance upgrades this motor came with the hull and I have 0 money in it. Anyway just wanted to say "Hi" and thanks for starting this board. I will be here a lot i think.
Nick

Re: Thank god
Welcome to HSF. Before you start with upgrades the best increases for speed would be to opitmaz your set up. Get rid of that tree trunk, Thats really slowing you down, Get a 20'' mid and get the propshaft even with the pad. You will have to get a LWP (Low water pick up/ Nose Cone) on the LU to do this. I good all round prop also would be a trophy. You shouldn't run a chopper unless its surface, Or they slip and run like crap. Hope this helps! Brandon

Re: Thank god
Thanks for the reply. I am looking very hard for a 20" mid. I am in an area where fast boats are 55MPH or bass boats. And bass boat guys don't understand If anyone knows of a 20" shaft to fit my motor plaese let me know. Please
Nick

Re: Thank god
Welcome, I agree get a 20" first.
Check ebay or talk to a couple local dealers. We sell used parts to a couple local guys that basically have marine salvage yards.

Re: Thank god
Bass boats not too fast huh? Michael Dixon's bass boat only did 152+mph ON RADAR!
Tell him Mapleleaf.
And No it was not an OMC nor a 25" mid.
Streams are fast, they delaminate and also flip and ya get dead, another boat drag racer got killed this weekend in MO.
You should have a 20" to stop all that drag I have a 18' Motion Marine (LTV) with a 25" Yamaha 150.
Also a 79 Vector/ 200 Mariner EFI 20"
try http://www.hydrostream.org and do some reading don't worry about going real fast
