Controls for 1986 Valero

Good day all, I have just purchased a hull, and now trying to learn about the boat and put it back together. I need information on how to measure the length for the controls. I do have a motor, it is a 1980's Merc, 200HP, it is an 8 pin electrical, if that helps.
