Yet another core question...

Restoring your Hydrostream or just giving it a small makeover? What better place than to show off your project. Big or small.

Yet another core question...

Post: # 14035Post TNRIVERRAT »

Thi is under the float boxes that I removed. If you can tell from the pictures it looks like two layers. It's a core sandwich so to speak :D So my question is when removing the core do I just take off the top layer of fiberglass and the core and leave the bottom layer(so to speak)? Any advice would be appreciated Thanks.

The core is over the floor about 2 inches ,I think that's what I'm looking at , I would remove all of it and get down to the original hull

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.....
This is how your hull is made except instead of 1/4" foam, you have 1/2" balsa.

After you remove the top fiberglass skin, scrape out the balsa and rough up the surface that's left and put it back together. Sounds so simple.

Why it there a gap underneath that lower layer? Or will that gap go away as I grind back towards where the float box used to be?

If I'm seeing right that's the floor register, after they install the floor they glass over it then the put the funnel core, so that's the glass that was over the floor. Yes as you grind it it will fad away to the original hull
