Replacing Original Steering Cables
I went to the local marine and was looking to replace my original dual steering cables for the Merc 150, but was told that the cables are discontinued. He recomended replacing the setup I have with either a kit that has the steering column already put together or go hydrolic steering. Does anyone know where I can order replacement cables for the original setup. Mine are a little longer then most, being from the Vulture. I also would love to hear comments about what route to go if I have to replace that won't cost too much. Any suggestions? Bill

Yes - RideGuide is accurate, what kind of $$$ are we talking for Hydrolic? Is it single cable then or what? Will it work with the original steering wheel or does that have to go? Bill

Re: Replacing Original Steering Cables
The hyd systems are a little spendy $750 and up but I think they are worth it. The helm is a pump then you have 2 lines that go back to the cyl that's monuned to the motor.
The shaft is a 3/4" taper so your wheel should work. If you look a couple pages back on my recore thread you can see what just the helm looks like. The lines are run off the back.

thanks Chet. I was hoping to just replace the cables and go. I will have to keep looking, but nice to know I have a backup plan. Bill

Re: Replacing Original Steering Cables
I know, I wish someone made replacement cables for these. Mine are ok but for how long I don't know. NFB system would hard to get used to. I use feedback to control the thing. Hydrolic just so $$$.

See a post like this on S&F & this was a link that a guy posted on the thred. I'm also looking for ride guide cables. Not sure if these will work on the old ride guide racks seeing that the r teleflex. So for now I'm just thinking about building a cable luber and see if I can't get mine to free up a little.
