A dead cylinder (or three) may sound crisp on the hose and will free rev. Only loaded will you notice the problem. The stroke on an outboard crank is much shorter than a car engine. This is why it doesn't act like a car engine. Hope you find the problem soon.

it sounds crisp and clean sounding on the hose havent had time to take it back to the water since carbs was redone going to try it out here soon if still not getting on plane then its gota be either coils or switch boxes i replaced trigger and stator so getting it minimized down the last two problems

Not a solid light. It will flash every rotation of the crankshaft. Like on a car engine. Like a strobe light flash. You can get a feel for it running on the hose. May see a problem at idle. Keep the rpm's down on the hose. Manual says under 1000 rpm's on the hose or risk damage.

okie may try tomm and see what it does its 40 miles to river just to back it in so its hard to test pull out then test again lol will try the coils so iam looking for a solid consist flash from all the coils?

Bring a timing light to the ramp. With the motor in the water still on the trailer, put in gear and run up rpm's some and clip light on each plug wire looking for flash. Easy way to tell if a coil is breaking down under load. Outboards dont shudder like a car engine does with a dead cyl.

Easy now, keep it under 3000 on the hose. Don't want to run an engine with no load at too much rpm.

Even if conditions are lousy, chuck it in the water. You're just trying to get it to jump up now, top end work will come later. I think you'll want the engine higher, and more prop on it, a 26 seems weak for that boat.

okie i just cleaned the carbs and seemed to be reveing alot quicker how many rpms should it rev to just mashing on it on the water hose i can only get 4,000 out of it on the water hose but from 1grand idle to 4 grand is very quick and snappy.....yea i gota put a regulator on the fuel pump...its tn riverrat's 79 vector ummm my old boat lol 6.5 set back jack plate lwp 200 mercury 1 inch below the pad its set up pretty good running a 26 in chopper any good way to check the switchs boxs and should they be grounded individual

When you stand on it, what rpm does it reach? Should see about 5 grand.

And 7 psi on a carb motor is too much, I've had 5 psi flood the carbs, mine runs about 3-4.
