so today i went to check on the boat and she didnt even start on anything she said that she talked to her manager and he told her that there is alot more work then she though because i didnt grind out the core or stringers, so she is gonna grind out the stingers and core for me for $75 and then tomarrow she is gonna tell me how much she will cost to put the core and stringers back in.
but anways on the vipers. on the two sides of the hull \ / <---- say that is the hull does there have to be any type of wood or foam there or do i just lay it with straight fiberglass? matt woven.
she told me she would put a foam there but it is gonna cost me alot extra and im not sure. she told me just to lay the floor with that materials and the foam will be around $500 is it worth it for me?

Ok, Your getting a deal if she is doing core and stringer removal for only $75.
Just replace it with what is in there. Your boat lasted 25+ years poorly built with balsa wood (core), when done right it will far outlast that. Look at Chest boat. The core goes all the way up the sides in a viper/vector as where in the vking/vultures only go up half way like mine. Just remove the core and stingers, then bed your new stringers in then lay core down the center of your stringers and then everywhere else as well. No need for any foam in the boat unless you want it strictly for flotation should you ever sink your boat. Just keep it afloat longer so you can rescue it.
This what your viper should look like when the core is all in... This is Chets viper... - http://www.hydrostreamforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1731#p13282

She has no idea what she is getting into if she is willing to remove the core for $75. I'm not saying she doesn't know fiberglass, but to suggest not putting it back together with a core would have me concerned for my safety when it's done. Look at my viper recore thread, yours will be the exact same.

Just to give you a idea on price. I was looking for some extra money this winter as well as something to do since I'm usually off for 4 months in the winter. I was going to do a core job on a vector for $1000 labor alone, I wouldn't remove a core and grind for anything less than $500 and I'm just doing it in my spare time in my garage with no overhead.

Okay thanks guys and she will probably redo the stringers and core for no more then $200 but thats just inbetween the stringers and for the sides of the stringers she said will fill with foam since in the hull there is chimes and the board wont lay flat and will make air pockets

Re: please read and answer
Ok, first of all, get the word BOARD out of your head. You should never use any type of bored!!!! If she knew her stuff she would know that balsa core is cut into little squares and held together by a mat that allows it to conform to different surfaces. Look at the picture below and you will see how it is shaped to the hull. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT USE FOAM!!!!!! That picture is in my boat.
My word of advice, go pick your boat up and do it yourself. Save yourself the headache and $$ and know that is is done correctly. She sounds like she has no clue what she is doing when building a boat. But I could be wrong....
