pathfinder22 wrote:Hi, just wanted to congratulate you on your boat. I was a little late. Having owned 3 v-kings, I would recommend going with a 2 stroke. Those boats do not like having that much weight on the transom . I would check the screamandfly forum and try to find a 2.5 mercury or a 2.4 bridgeport at 375 lbs. You won't be disappointed. Also have that transom checked out and make sure it's not wet or has any rot. Most of those boats need cores, if they haven't been replaced already. Good luck and congratulations!
thanks so much for feedback and do you have any pics of your past boats?

I have had 2strokes and 4strokes there both good motors but I love my new 225 h.o .d.i evenrude its not only quite but fuel consumption it great as it uses very little compared to my 225 mariner the diff is night and day evenrude is a 30-50$ a day boat where as the Mariner is a50-110 $ a day boat same distances driving and about the same speeds but one is on a Valero and the other on a Voyager .I must admit I was sceptical about the 225 ho di but I really like it . What ever you pick good luck in your quest and happy boating .

I think the 225 HO is a little over 500 lbs and the 225 Mariner probably around 420 lbs, but I ve heard one of those 225 HO before and the thing was running and I was holdin it on the dock and didnt realize it was runnin ...... REAL quiet

I think he has the 225 Mariner 420 lbs on a Valero which is 17' 9" like your VKing and he has the 225 HO 503 lbs on a Voyager which is 20 feet .............the boat I was holdin at the dock was 21 feet

Russ is right on the money about my boats as for weight and whats on what .I have owned Mercs for 20years and have had 5 Evenrudes and really like my etec its quite and makes good power and it is every bit as good on gas as the 4strokes .I have not personaly got to run a newer Merc yet . As my mariner is a98 and the etec a 05 it is amazing what they have done in the outboard world in the last few years .
