1977 Vulture Rebuild
Re: 1977 Vulture Rebuild
I think someone spilled a couple extra gallons of resin in that thing. They pored resin on the outside of the stringers more than a inch thick.
I was hoping to get more done but the extra resin and other "custom" stuff slowed progress down. That and I learned a 7" 36 grit sanding disk cuts skin fairly easily and ended up getting some stitches after we were done.
All in all I had a good day talking streams with another stream lover what else could one ask for.

Re: 1977 Vulture Rebuild
Well, after yesterday few hours of work, then a short break to take a ride in Chets viper, I have a lot more motivation now. That viper got up on the pad with zero effort and was smooth as ever. He has one hell of a stream!
And now for what we had got done yesterday so here are some pictures...
These are just a few pictures about half way through the work of the day and just part of the pile of junk that came out of the boat.

And the small pile of junk from the boat. There was still plenty in the boat yet.

More pictures to come of the jackplate and all that transom reenforcement junk and mostly cleaned out of all the junk from the day to see what is all left. I just keep trying to envision it on the lake.

Re: 1977 Vulture Rebuild
Here are some pictures from today just before I was about to get some more done but it decided to rain so didn't get any work done.
Just what I have done thus far and I feel like I am just about half way to having it all cleaned out.

I don't know if you can really see it but right in the center of the picture is a weak spot we found that goes all the way through. Nothing that can't be fixed though.

Here is the transom with all the junk and the jackplate removed. Notice the 2 cracks and how it completely separated. That could have been a disaster had I put a motor on there.

Hopefully I will be able to get blot more work done on it over the next few weeks. Until next time, that's all for now.
And Chet, thank you again for your help and the boat ride. Hopefully we can do it again soon and get into that vking. And I'm glad your knee is still intact.

Chet, I did that in my index finger through thick leather gloves. That smarted

Hip, brings back memories! When they hacked mine up with the ply they thought the more resin the better. Took for ever to grind that down. Keep it up man.

Re: 1977 Vulture Rebuild
I couldn't get the link to work on my cell phone but they are used for running all the wires and fuel lines in them for a cleaner look. Mine were on the boat when I got it but I have heard of a lot of people using hoses from a shop vac. If I remember right, that's what Chet used on his viper so take a look at his viper rebuild thread and look at his. I seen them in person and his look great and were cheap and you can get them at home depot or menards.hydrostream76 wrote:just curious, i see those black hoses,

Re: 1977 Vulture Rebuild
I used irrigation hose. It was like $10 for 20' and came with one fitting I just had to buy another for under a buck. I'll see if I can find a good picture of them.
This is them installed, the fittings are under the deck and just fit tight inside the hose. I did have to trim the cowl to make them fit then I drilled 2 holes through the cowl and hoses and bolted with small bolts and nylock nuts.
