Guys, I have another question. What do you use to set the balsa core in? Do you just wet the floor with resin and lay them on it? I was thinking of laying down 1.5 oz csm and while it is setting up mixing a thick batch of resin,cabosil and 1/4 chopped strand and spreading that out and bedding the balsa into it. Then covering it all with 1708. I got the stringers set in today so tomorrow I am hoping to start installing the balsa.

Thats what I did, layer of csm down on the hull, wasnt shy with the resin. Coated the side to be bedded with resin then set it in and weighted it down. Once it was set, I went around edges with cabosil filling in gaps and making transition from core to hull smoother so there would be no air pockets in 1708 when covering core

What Chet and I did was put down 1 or 2 layers of CSM (I cant remember off hand) then let it set up real good but with still some tack to it we put down a nice layer of resin with cabosil then layed the core down and applying pressure so the core was soaking up the cabosil and stuff and coming through the gaps and filling them and stuff. Worked great and my core is crazy stuck to the boat now. The way it should have been done 30 years ago. lol

They have you covered, make sure to get a good coat of resin on the bottom and in ALL the cracks in the balsa. If you do a good enough job on all the cracks if one block gets wet the resin will contain the water in that block.

I got the core between the stringers in today and 2 layers of 1.5 csm on both sides of the stringers glassed down. Tomorrow I hope to have the core in the back half of the boat stuck down and covered with 1708. I will have some pic. later on. Today the shop that I am working in was having some construction work done and we kept getting in each others way so my progress was slowed down. Hopefully tomorrow will go faster. WOW Resin fumes..........

Just thought of another question, the front 2 bulkheads do they get glassed to the hull or on top of the core. If it dont matter which way do guys think is better? Also I am thinking about moving the 1st bulkhead ( the one closest to the transom ) back a few inches from the factory. Any thoughts good or bad.

Glassed my bulkheads to the floor like the stringers were, tied them together as one unit.
