I'm getting ready to glass in the stringers Balsa in my Vector and started thinking about the drain plug hole. Is there a block of wood that goes on the inside of the hull at the drain plug? I can't find any pictures of how it's supposed to be . I figure I better find out before I started glassing everything in, I would hate to mess it up now.
yess theres a block of wood buy a new drain hole plug usually brass put it thru hole then measure the length sticking out on the inside make a piece to fit were plug is slightly outsude if block ill look for a pick from my restore
only thing about using 5200 is that if the bilge ever gets soaked with some gas it can softer, or weake the 5200, and, some metals don't bond worth a darn to 5200. best thing to do is oversize the hole by about 3 sizes, wet it out with epoxy until the wood won't soak anymore, then back-fill with thickened epoxy (silica, or microfiber), let it harden, redrill and place the tube in with more thickened epoxy.
yeah, wet it out, both the hole and the brass, after you scratch it with some 60 grit or so, and put some slightly thickened (ketchup consistency) resin on the brass, and then do your crimp to instll.
