CRACKS IN GEL COAT

Post: # 12060Post varmint1 »

My dad just got a 1980 Ventura with an OMC 150 for nothing. Of course it needs core, stingers, and transome. I noticed the gel has cracks all over the hull, what caused this and what do we do to fix these cracks, need all the help I can get on this one.

Cracks in the gel can be from several things, spider web looking is from a impact, long single lines are from the fiberglass flexing more than the gel can tolerate, you can also get cracks from screws if you don't chamfer holes out so that the screw doesn't touch the gel. Think of gel as a egg shell as in it cracks easy. the fiberglass is a lot more flexible.
