The $500.00 wonder. 1983 Chris Craft Viking deckboat that came from the in-laws. It was very neglected and the 3.0 mercruiser is/was sick but with no $$$ in it, its a perfect low-budget cruiser river boat. I find it ironic that I own both a Hydrostream AND a boat built by the company that sued Howard over the Viking name (Viking boat company - bought out by Chris Craft in the late years). Wife and daughter love it because it has room, a stereo, rides great in slop, and they don't have to listen to me rant..."don't hold on to that windshield frame.....don't climb in the boat wet...don't scratch the gel.....etc....etc".

Hi I just ran across your Viking deck boat off of searching on Google. From what I understand, you bought this viking for $500? I recently bought a viking deck boat 170sc outboard for 2500. If you search viking deck boat on Google, it's the first one that shows up. I have invested some dollars into the boat for sentimental reasons... I am interested in seeing some more photos of your i/o viking just for fun.
Thanks, John

Thought I would jump in here quick. How do those Viking deck boats compare to say an equivalent length pontoon boat (with regard to ride quality and speed)? The bride wants a pontoon boat now and looking at options. Deck boat might grab a bit more speed for loss of ride quality? Were the Viking a decent boat in the deck boat category?

My viking is on www.vikingdeckboat.com as you can see it is more of your action packed skiing and tubing boat. You could use it for just cruising but I'd consider getting a bigger deck boat or a pontoon for more room. The tri-hull boats are more stable than a V-hull bottom boat in my opinion. Hope that helps.

Stegworld, that interor set up/layout is pretty cool looking. I have seen Jeffs boat (Viking) but not the interior. I really like that. That looks like it would be a nice cruising boat I think.
