Re: YT hull vrs. V
I don't have any personal experience with the same boat motor combo's in v-vs xt or yt hulls but I heard the v and the xt will be a little faster because the yt the sponsons are even with the pad so they are always in the water. I think the yt and xt ride a little better in choppy water because the will pack some air under the boat.
I personally like the looks of the xt the best.
This is my xt you can see the sponson is out of the water.

Re: YT hull vrs. V
yt not quite as fast. it was designed to be more user friendly, or more drivable than a padded v, but ended up not really accomplishing this, per pips own admission. they do ride nicely in light chop though. they require more power to make them work, too. a friend had a valero yt (same 17 9 as vking) with a 175 merc and it felt good at speed. the xt is the comfort wagon, though.

Re: YT hull vrs. V
I'm still trying to figure out my Valero YT. Had a 23p chopper and it just wasn't practical for a family boat i.e. raising jackplate, slower plane etc. Have the Laser 2 on now and plan to start from scratch w/ jackplate...I have almost zero trim. I'm going to drop it and raise as needed. Also have a High-Five that I have never used.
Great post on hull design!

Re: YT hull vrs. V
I've run the yt against my viking motor for motor and always walked away from them. Had 150 rude, but just put on 225 looper. The Frankenrude man shows it can be successfully done. Hope to be in the water soon. Let you know how it goes.
