Ventura II vs V-King (ride quality in chop)
From a few of the recent posts here (and also on S&F) is sounds like the Ventura II actually has a better rough water ride than the V-King?
Anyone here driven (or owned) both and have any feedback? Just seems counterintuitive as first glance (based soley on boat length), but hull shape means everything.
Any takers? If you had to handle 1' chop, would the Ventura II outperform a V-King as far as ride? Would speeds be similar or would the V-King have an edge in this department?

I think it's a lotta crap myself, too much of that "my boat is the best" stuff, and not enough objectivity. The Ventura may have a very slight edge, being wider at the rear it's easier to recover, but I think it's splitting hairs, especially against the Vking, with it's length advantage.
I think a lot of this goes back to the old days. The Ventura was more stable than the Vector, and I think the assumption carried over to the Vking. Brett commented to me after the fall dam run in 2010, that my boat seemed to be riding better than his in the 2-3 footers on the way in, but I was still getting knocked around pretty good, and only going 1/2 mph faster than him. Not exactly overwhelming ride superiority.

I should mention though, that all Ventura owners have almost supernatural driving skills, and this may explain the reason for the misunderstanding about the hull, when it's really all driver talent
(Stokernick can confirm this) I think

Roger that )
Maybe we can put an accelerometer in the boats this year (at the Romp) and play Mythbusters

I had a V-King and a Vamp, which is a walk out bow Ventura II. The nose design under the bow of the V 2 will not leave you wet or submarine like a V King.
The V2 was way better on the Mississippi. The V king beat you to death unless you drove it over the top of everything like a man possessed...in which case it beat itself to death.
Top speed? Wouldn't know, never had a big motor on a V2, but I'd suspect the V king was faster because of the flat pad and bottom design

I owned a Verado back in 89 which was the hull of a Ventura 2 with a different deck and in 83 owned a VKing , both boats beat you up in the ruff stuff and I have the Thunderstream ( VKing ) now but so far I just hold on for dear life( I'm gettin OLD )

If you are running the back foot of the pad over the rollers, the V-king is amazing in the nasty stuff. It will give you a beat down at slower speeds though. I miss my V king, I want another one someday.

I knew the day would eventually come that some of your "special" photos would show up here. That's awesome.
