Mike, that engine would be a much better fit for a vking. It depends what you want your boat to do. If it's racing, the Viper beefed up would be the way to go, but for family and cruising quickly, extra room and stability, id recommend the vking. jmo Bill

Russ has got a point with the weight factor but I;ve seen 500 lb engines perform well on them. Just make sure your core and transome are reinforced and that your setup and driving style accmodate the weight.

I personally wouldn't do it, stick to a 2.5.

I realize an opti wouldn't even come close to accommodating your race purposes Chet but I'm always interested in everyones opinions on the subject......For your everyday run about why wouldn't YOU use an Opti? ....In other words why do you shy away from added weight on streams? Also, what would you think of a optimax 200 xs ROS for a Vking? - 434 lb according to the merc race site.

These boats were designed around the inline motors. Any v6 is going to cause porous issues and theoretically weight will male it worse.

viper and vector are both horrible about porpousing but the v-king isnt as bad, still does a little but is easier to get out of it. ive seen a few running opti-pops but if i were going to throw an opti on one it would have to be the older 2.5 opti. more weight than the regular ole 2.5 but not by much, and you get the awesome fuel mileage with great reliability. just no so much speed.
