So ive read a lot of opinions on carpet glue. I wanted to get all of yours. Ive got the Nice 20oz Rubber backed marine carpet.

Some say use a Spray-On Contact Cement, which sounds easiest. But does it stick well and last well? 3M 77? other Brand in Specific?

Some say use the Marine Latex Carpet adhesive that you spread on with a trowel. However they say its ridiculously hard to work with. Will it really last longer? Look Nicer? Resist water more? Any Brand you have used in specific? How long does it take to "Set up" or "Grab Hold". Some carpet is going vertically up the wall and I wonder how long I will have to hold it there.

I feel like the Carpet Adhesive is the way to go otherwise they wouldn't specifically make it. Although I asked the guy I bought the carpet from and he said everyone just uses a contact cement. What do the new boat manufacturers use when they make em new?

I use the carpet glue and yeah its kind of a pain but not from the sticking it up vert but keeping it off stuff you dont want it on mainly yourself . And dont use to much it only needs a thin layer.

So, you spread the stuff all over the floor, a thin layer. How do you get it up the sides?

Then you have your carpet already cut... Do you Fold it back and start laying it on and rolling it down as you go? So you are then on the carpet? Once you set it down does it stick right away, or can you move it a bit?

Once you stick it to the glue, how long till it holds, (like on the sides)?

With the Carpet Adhesive, does it stick well in the corners where it bends at 90 degrees, or does it try to lift up?

Is there a certain brand you reccomend? Water Based or Latex based?

You start in one spot front or back and work your way the other way it well stick right away but you still can move it around dont put it all down at once only small areas make sure the carpet is in straight because once you get a large portion down it gets harder to ajust it.

So water based or Latex based. Any ideas?

I used water base. Trowled on. Held on sides of hull and in folds. Water clean-up is nice cause you will get some on the finished side of the carpet. It's enevatible.

I have that same Foot Hole that you have, and wondered how to cut the carpet to fit. Where should the seams be? Two Pieces and a Third for the Back of the Down Dip? Or include the Down Dip with the Top Peice?

I believe the front floor piece of carpet and throttle pad was done with one piece. I'm trying to explain how he did it but it's difficult.

The carpet was cut at the pad corners and folded up the two sides onto the top. Obviously it was short to the footrest but a scrap was glued in. On the side to side portion, it was cut in the middle. This left an uncovered middle strip that would be directly under the throttle pedal. My throttle pad ties into the footrest so there is no front edge.. You could just cut a square out of the carpet in the pad area and lay it in around the pad. A second piece can cover the pad.

No, I understand. Mine is a bit different though. Maybee easier in the long run. Im just gonna have to trial and error it. Ill post pics when its in. Thanks for the help.

You can practice with paper or an old piece of carpet then use as a template.
