Hello Hydrostreamers. I have been riding a 81 Vamp /open bow for quite a while and joined to help make the decision on my next boat.

Vamps are one of the fastest hydrostream hulls. I can't wait until I can dig into mine.

I am not sure what the future holds. I do not think i want to get away from the open bow...that where the wife and dog like to ride.
That is why i joined up to this forum to make a well informed decision. I had the hots for a Venus this weekend but have since got my self under control .

The vamp is a very versatile hull. It has the ventura bottom so raise that motor up, smoke everything on the water, want to pull tubbers and stuff, lower the motor a bit and you have a killer tube and ski boat. I personally think it is the better open bow hydrostreams.

I just ride never, pull anyone. I have never been over taken on the water not that it can be done.

I pulled the plug out out had water come out , this has never happened. We did get caught in a rain shower so the next time out i pulled the plug water again...maybe a quart both times. I have it in the warehouse with bow elevated and going to do a micro=inspection of the hull and anything that would allow water to enter. Hopefully it was water from the rain outing
The next step i am understanding to be is drill the rear end and see how it is holding up under the floor, Yes?

We will see...i cant be without a ride .

I'll let Hippie chime in on this one as he's familiar with the Vamp's structural construction and I'm not.

Check around the drain plug on the inside. There’s a wood block glassed in there. That’s one of the first places that will start to rot. Check the core towards the back of the boat. There are usually some places where you can get at it back there.

I usually have water get in mine when I have passengers. Bone dry when it’s just me...

I thitnk i found the issue , i did not have the boat centered on the trailer and the water collected to the side and on the last outing found its way to drain. I did look the hull over and repaired several nicks and gouges in the gel coat. It looked , felt and sounded solid. Its been raining for last 10 days..bummer
