here are the stringers in a 76 vector

As you can see the floor level is lower then 80's and the stringers are only 2 inshes tall .

Man that don't look like mine.Lets say the core is rotten in a couple of spots,what could happen if I did not replace?also someone has used anti-fowling paint on the hull,is there any way to sand or a chemical made to strip without harming gel coat.Looks like gel is good in spots where bottom paint has rubbed off

Any place the core is rotten a hard hit can crack the outer skin (hull): landing off a wave or hitting something in the water, or even while loading on the trailer. If someone put anti fouling paint on the bottom it would apear they left it in the water for long periods of time which would make a better chance for water to be able to get in the core.


This is a stress crack because of rotten core.



What have you done to check your core?



Man I would hate to see you have to pull the floor up later to recore and patch a crack in the hull!!!

The water pressure alone will cause delamination and can make the boat hook or sink. Don't take the chance. If the core is wet it will rot, I wouldn't go through the trouble of only replacing part of the core do it all.

OK old core is comming out.This really is a nice boat,Hate to short cut anything.Thanks for the info.

also someone has used anti-fowling paint on the hull

To properly prep for anti fowling the hull surface should be sanded to provide a course surface for the paint to stick.
IF this happened..( try stripping a small area to inspect) to remove all this paint, you might be left with yet another chore as the hull bottom will look like sh!t.

ok I cut 4 2"squares in the floor to check the core . When I took out the pieces of balsa they diddn't look rotten or water logged.I'm just going to patch the holes,put down a new floor.Repaint the bottom with some sort of epoxy,then its interior and Motor & controls.Gonna get a good chunk from IRS,Like to put 150 or 200HP on it,Jack plate,&foot throttle.I see some good deals on motors on ebay,will just have to see how it goes.What works best on that boat as far shaft lenght goes.I think the 115 i have is a 20".
