Re: 72 hydro stream viper
I would really grill him on the core. The guys that worked at the factory say, "if it hasn't been "properly" re-cored, it's rotten" Regardlless of indoor storage. They are pretty matter of fact about it. I hear stories out there where folks say their non re-cored 'Streams are rot free but it's VERY rare.
These little boats will hurt you BAD or kill if they come apart. If you want to go 100 mph, I would STRONGLY recommend having the core checked. Sample holes would be opened up from the inside and the core physically looked at. This is what a Viper will do with a bad core.
Notice the nice shiny gelcoat?? One would believe a boat this nice would have to have a good core.
Sorry to pee on this thread but I don't want anyone to get hurt.
ALWAYS wear a life jacket and inspect the bottom carefully for cracks often!!!!

Re: 72 hydro stream viper
Hi, I was looking on line for parts for my drag boat and I came across this boat and another- I thought a nice little v hull with a nice interior and a big motor would go nice on the Sound. I do have two jetskis that do well over 70mph. But this boat "being restored " would be fun, also having the hunger to go faster on the water (since they closed the drag strip down- I have since sold my car) I figured I might take advantage of my surroundings. What also sold me was video on you tube with the green viper , an added bonus is I have not seen another viper like mine either on you tube or were I live. Plus I have lived on the water most of 46 years. My last dangerous stunt was putting a brand new 70 johnson on a 15 foot duranautic aluminum boat (boat rated for a 40 hp max. dealer wouldnt sell me the motor with the boat had to buy it at a different dealer). I fabbed braces for the transum and put a center console in it. That boat flew- but had a nasty chine walk at 1/2 throttle. Put trim tabs on it and problem was solved. I do like speed But I also respect it and the boat and what it could do to me or others if not properly used. Thats why I joined this forum -to talk to experts like your selves who have been doing this for a long while. I want to know how to upload a picture- because I have a few of the boat.
