what to look for in a computer

Post: # 7316Post 77viper »

I'm looking to upgrade my laptop but have no idea what to look for. I traded a boat for this one about 3 years ago and it has done fine but now I want to hook it to my tv with a hdmi cable and this one doesn't have a hdmi output. I only use it to surf the net and watch movies on netflix, I have never used any of the microsoft programs and have no idea how to.
I guess I would like to know what the specs given mean.

Processor intel pentium dual cpu t2330 @1.60GHz 1.60GHz
Memory Ram 2.0
System type 32-bit operating system
I replaced the Hard drive about a year ago with a 250 at 5400 unit.

As you might see I have no idea what I'm talking about so make sure you type slow if responding.

Thanks for any imput.

Yes I am. I thought about a tablet but after reading a little I figured I would wait a bit and see what the androids are about.

APPLE ALL THE WAY! best computer on market. great for media files like movies and pics. a lil pricy but well worth the money. if all your doing is mainly surfing the web you dont need a huge one. apple's bottom of the line still would be great. they all have fire wire hook ups and everything.

just me opinion.

Chet, up the memory to 3GB. Windows 7.0 takes almost all of the 2gb to run, leaving you not enough to run quickly. It costs a little more but is well worth it. Also, I am NOT an APPLE guy. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. Also, do you have a better idea when you are coming to Yamaha yet? Looking forward to meeting you. Bill

Thanks guys.
I can't say I know enough about computers to have a opinion on Macs, but they are out of my price range.

Are you better off with say 3GB of memory and a bigger processor, or more memory and a smaller processor.

I found what looks like a good deal on a used HP http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/ele/2132588044.html.

It should be the the second or third week in Jan that I will be out there.

That looks good and would run great with 6gb ram. Seems to have everything you need. You can compare at bestbuy, but I think something similar and new would be round 500. MAke sure and let me know when you are coming down my way. Bill

I took a quick look at it and its a nice machine with some very nice specs. He just went from a 90hp 2000lbs Bayliner to a 280hp 900lbs Hydrostream.
