Re: 1978 Viking resto-mod
Looking great!!
I’m at the same progress point.
Lower unit in epoxy, upholstery panels made.
You are creative so if your upholstery price gets too high , consider buying a machine and sew your own.
Stapling the pieces together in the “seam allowance” makes sewing easier. Go slow and stay on the line.
If you can run a jig saw you can sew. Sailrite has nice simple machines. I’m getting one next month and selling the Consew in Alaska now that we’re spending most of our time in Washington.
Sailrite has awesome products and how to videos. Step by step. I stitched my Sea Ray open bow upholstery and it looks very acceptable! Total confidence builder. I’ve never stitched upholstery. Sailrite.com or YouTube/sailrite.

Re: 1978 Viking resto-mod
Ron, I knew you were going to tell me to do my own upholstery work hahaha. I know you've done a fair amount of it yourself and it looks great from what I can see. I will have to see what the price comes back as and go from there. My only issue with buying that type of equipment is I won't have much use for it after this is done.

Re: 1978 Viking resto-mod
I had my Virage done and it was perfect. Cost $3500.
If your estimate is higher than you can swallow, you can watch the videos, and make up to the stapled together part.
In Alaska, the canvas / upholstery shop charge $55.00/ hr.
That was going to be my last option if I couldn’t figure out the machine.
I’m spending the day cutting foam.

Thats about what I was expecting to pay. So I'm hoping they come in close to that. Your seats are looking good!

Re: 1978 Viking resto-mod
Went through the powerhead, installed new reeds, rebuilt the carbs, new fuel and bleed lines, new thermostats, rebuilt fuel pump and poppet valve, new stator and trigger and a new flywheel. My flywheel had a broken screw.
Fabricated a mount to run rigging hose on the clamshell cowl. Everything is hooked up at the engine, other than shift and throttle cables.
Trim and jack plate paddle switches are mounted on a custom stainless plate.
Trim and jack plate relays are wired in and everything works though the harness now. Only wiring left is the sending unit on the fuel tank and changing out the switch panel when the new one is back from the machine shop.
Coming down to the end. Spring fever is getting real!

Re: 1978 Viking resto-mod
The steering wheel is finished and installed. I bought a Grant wheel and modified it to work better with the paddle switches and to fit the original hub. I wanted a new wheel to have a 13" with the hydraulic steering vs the 15" original. The original hub was also modified to work with the SeaStar helm. A new center cap for the wheel was made to look like the original. The original was either lost or broken.
The windshield is on for good. The lower trim got lost in the shuffle from when it was removed 15 years ago. So a new one was fabbed from a leftover piece of the rub rail that was formed.
Control cables are connected to the engine, so now everything is connected to the engine that needs to be. Once I get the lower unit resealed I can test fire it.
Just a few little things left to button up and she can get wet.
