76 vector restore

Restoring your Hydrostream or just giving it a small makeover? What better place than to show off your project. Big or small.

5 layers of stitch mat? Going to be strong and weight a lot! I used stitch mat on mine and I know how heavy it is when saturated with resin. It's gona to be strong though! Post some pics!

Hi Guys,
I'm thrilled to have this site! I have restored many a "Glassic" hard to believe early streams are now in that catagory, I had to have one again, one of my favorite boats I ever owned, well worth the effort to get one back.
I'll post some pictures of my Vector restoration on a new thread. My "fast" computer is dead so I'll work on it this W.E.
By the way I am a tournament slalom skiier as well as recreational barefooter, I have a Sanger inboard ski boat for that stuff now but, back in the day (late 70's, early 80's) I skiied and footed a lot behnd my Vector, I had a ski pylon tripod, two legs mounted to the transom, third on the floor. There was a lot of bow rise and it struggled pulling a long line deepwater B.F. start, not because of lack of power it was the stern just dug in, I would imagine that the Vulture will be a lot better in this regard. The wakes were pretty good for crossing, the table not too bad. Slalom was a dream, no wake at all, a little squirrly in the course, again the Vulture should be better than the Vector for this too.
Yes, five layers is heavier than a cored balsa in the center but, I weighed everything including the resin used. 30 lbs was about the difference with most of the weight gain towards the rear recognizing bow weight should not be messed with. The Biaxial mat is incredibly stiff and does not really add a lot more weight than chop for a given thickness. It is more expensive which is why it's not used much in cost conscious boat building which in the end is how the Streams were made and I do not mean that in an insulting way. It's great to see so much interest in keeping these cool boats alive, they are timeless, as outrageous looking today as they were when introduced in the 70's.

all is well,
I haven't been home for three weeks and most likely will not have a chance to get home for another two weeks. bad part is the weather has been good enough to work on the boat and i am not there, good part is i am making some money again.

You are already a true streamer, you have one under restoration and are looking to get another!!!! I don't know alot about the Vegas but tunnels are normaly fast boats, hope things work out with the Vegas.

I skiied the course compettively in high school but had a problem getting out of bed early enough to make the first heat . I would tear the others up in the last two though. I used an Obrien Competetor, edge to edge cave, all my friends were scared of it because of the response. I loved it because it would never slide out from under you , I still have it today but a little scared of useing it ,i am too old to take some of those falls

The Vector looks good. I spent the day sanding on the Vulture as well. I am about 1/2 done with the sanding. I also have a O'Brien Competitor Slalom which I still ski on once in a while. I prefer my older EP Comp1 though. I skied competitively and in shows back in the days. Now my kids are show skiing. Can't wait to rip up the lake again. Once it thaws of course. Bill

I used acetone after I was done grinding then just before I was laying any glass I sanded with 36 grit by hand to get a good mechanical bond to the old glass.

yes acetone
it's actually very important to use it
it will clean all dirt, grease, etc
i use a clean rag, and do it right before you're ready to apply any application, it evaporates quickly
you don't want to go through all that nice work and have it all lift in a couple of years
