Thanks for the encouragement Chet. I know this will be a learning experience and I've got a new idea for the stringer tie-in to the splashwell area that I think can make the transom/upper deck reinforcement a lot better than what I have seen. I just wish I had all the vacuum equipment that you have. I am thinking about the mod you made to the pad too. From what I have seen, the Allison's have a wider pad that may be a factor in their performance. I may try to make the higher/ wider mod. I'm going to love playing mad scientist on this one.77viper wrote:I can't say I'm glad to see it rotted under there but I'm glad to see you fixing it. The boat will be safer and lighter next year and for the coming years. As far as materials go whatever you use will be a lot better all the way around than what a factory could do back in the 70's. Keep at it and have fun doing it.

Re: New Year Fireworks-- Viking resto started
ANY old school stream needs a recore, I've seen 2 out of near 100 that passed and they both were 89 models, my HST which has no core, but was full of soaked plywood and foam, and a friends 89 vegas that led an extremely pampered life. Anyone who thinks their old stream is fine is dumb, ignorant, in denial, or stupid.
using a rubber mallet is the wrong way to go about testing a boat, I use a screw driver with a hard plastic handle, it has'nt lied in many many many many boats.

Those knees look beefy. I'm thinking of coming around in a "U" shape that ties in underneath the new flat splash panel on the cap. There's a lot of pull going aft at the top of the transom when the foot pivots in under acceleration that this configuration would support.RussF wrote:heres some knees

Well, here's day 2. This is a lot of work! Check out the 2X4 seat bridge!
The CPVC foam isn't from the factory, is it?
Stringers gone
Bow cleaned out

Re: New Year Fireworks-- Viking resto started
Thanks Hippie, after being in that mess all afternoon I didn't have the energy to fool with it. I now feel like an official member of the Hydrostream hull ripping club. I thought I might get out of paying these dues somehow. Tomorrow I have to fog the motor for storage and get it and the rest of the rigging off the boat. It's finally getting cold this week and I'm glad cause it was hot in that one-piece protector. By the way Hippie, what HP looper are you going to run?Hippie459MN wrote:There. Fixed your post for ya. Re: New Year Fireworks-- Viking resto started
I know Chet has some tricks for ya! Let me know what you're doin'. I'm going to mic out the cylinders to see if it's time for a rebuild, and change from the Boyeson reeds to some of Chris Carter's. I want to boost compression by plugging the idle reliefs, and popping on some 2.7 heads I picked up this fall, but I have to do the cooling modification first cause I have a closed deck. Last of all I'm considering raising the exhaust ports to 250HP specs, and bigger jets. I will probably document the work, so you can see what I did.Hippie459MN wrote: Just a little old V6.
