Re: 77 Hydrostream Ventura II - Project
Take the engine off the boat. Make a support for the pad down the middle. I used 10x12x2 and two 2x4's to make a "U" shaped stand for the middle of the boat. Flip it over when built and set the boat on it. Then use a couple car jacks on the back wings with a small board and some carpet to ...

I agree with you Pete. Remove it. It's more work, but it needs to be safe.transomstand wrote:Get the hull well supported and take it all out, it's shot. All the black color gives it away. Be thankful you caught it in time.

Re: 77 Hydrostream Ventura II - Project
Make sure to take a good look or drill into the core. If that is rotten, it will have to come out. The core is the structure that makes the boat rigid and must be solid. From the looks of the dark spots, you have some core spots that are rotted also. take a chisel and do a bit of digging down to the...

Re: 1977 Mercury 200 Questions?
Thanks guys,
Got the pump out yesterday and hope to lift the motor off today. I get it now. I have never seen a setup like this, but I'm ok with it.

Re: 1977 Mercury 200 Questions?
Thanks Pete, I'm thinking I should be able to just unhook the hydraulic cable at the transom and back the engine away? When I pull the motor, will those fittings stay with the engine bracket or unhook somehow and stay in the transom? Any thoughts? Oh, haven't given up on the Ventura II either. Almos...

1977 Mercury 200 Questions?
I picked up a 1977 Viking recently and will be replacing the core, and possibly the transom. I know plenty about re-coring a boat, but very little about the Engines that run them. I was surprised to see that the hydraulic pump for the trim and tilt is separate and screwed down in the back of the boa...

Re: newbie 76 viper
Oh - Like to boat in Fox Lake occasionally, but spend a lot of time up in the North Woods. (Minocqua Area) I've also will drop in some of the smaller lakes around here, but get bored with them quickly. I'm real familiar with Genoa City, my cousins used to live out there.
