I agree with you Pete. Remove it. It's more work, but it needs to be safe.

Make sure to take a good look or drill into the core. If that is rotten, it will have to come out. The core is the structure that makes the boat rigid and must be solid. Thanks Pete, I'm thinking I should be able to just unhook the hydraulic cable at the transom and back the engine away? When I pull the motor, will those fittings stay with the engine bracket or unhook somehow and stay in the transom? Any thoughts? Oh, haven't given up on the Ventura II either. Almos...

Oh - Like to boat in Fox Lake occasionally, but spend a lot of time up in the North Woods. (Minocqua Area) I've also will drop in some of the smaller lakes around here, but get bored with them quickly. I'm real familiar with Genoa City, my cousins used to live out there.
