My Varmint build
Probably the best advice I can give is to use a good product. Dupont Imron clear is what was recommended to me but it wasn't available in my area so I went with what the local auto paint supplier had which was a PPG product. It looked great for several years but then started to flake off again. The ...

Re: My Varmint build
I used a 400 grit on the DA sander to get rid of any of the residual previous clear coat. It also gave it some tooth for the new clear to bite into where hopefully it won't lift. I had to hand sand alot of the areas that I couldn't get into with the DA. You have to be very careful not to sand into t...

Re: My Varmint build
The maiden voyage went great. I had her up to 74 on the gps before I let off. The prop seems to be a great match for it. I brought it back home to finish wiring the guages. Its a fun boat. I took a few people for a ride in it and scared them to death. The boat is very flighty and you have to be judi...

All done except for some little things and ready to get wet this weekend for the first time since I've got her. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj306/gregpro50/Hydrostream%20Varmint/P6301986.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj306/gregpro50/Hydrostream%20Varmint/P6301988.jpg http://i275.phot...

Re: My Varmint build
The problem wasn't with the cables it was with the helm. I ended up having to rob the rideguide setup from my Vector to use the hydrostream wheel. The hydrostream wheel has a square insert that mounts on the helm. The teleflex helm had a tapered and keyed mount that just wouldn't work with the wheel...

Re: My Varmint build
Steering and controls mounted. I went with a dual cable ride guide setup. I had to bring both cables out on the starboard side. I had a dual cable teleflex setup but the steering wheel mount was different and I really wanted to use the original wheel. I have to cut a hole for the tachometer. There i...

Re: My Varmint build
I checked it out. I had to replace a 2x2 section of the floor where the batteries had leaked in the past. I drilled into the stringers, transom, and core and amazingly it was all fresh wood. I figure if it was going to rot then towards the stern would be where it would start. I just got done doing t...
