I run a sporty with 6" set back and as high as 1-5/8" above the pad. It can still be run alot higher.

I would 'think' 5-6ft is more then enough for support. You may want to complete your new core before removing the transom as it will help keep the boat square.
Regardless it's never a bad idea to flip the boat and blueprint the bottom when you're all done.

Can you not just remove the clutch from the NFB systems? It's been a while but I ran a dual rack Teleflex system on my Vector with no issues. I did like the Rideguide system better but they all work. I would have no issues going to Hydraulic. It should eliminate the torque on the wheel. You'll just ...

I hate be the one, but it is likely that your balsa core is wet.
The good news is there are lots of great threads around here on the subject.
The bad news is, it's a big job :(

What kind of HP/Speeds do you run or would like to see?
