Re: you know what sucks more than removing a rotten core???
Yes ironicly look for the worst core possible for a restore!! On the good core areas on mine (a 74 Vector) I set my skill saw at about 1/2 inch and cut a checkerboard pattern of about 1 inch squares. Then I took a Sawzall with a long (about 10 inches) blade and ran it flat against the bottom which c...

Re: River scum vs white hull?
Instead of Muriatic use Oxyalic Acid, that is the active ingredient in "easy off" boat hull cleaner at a fraction of the price. It's a powder and comes in small plastic containers at ACE hardware. It is used as a wood bleach so look in the paint dept. I mix a few gallons of water and a cup...

Re: Connecticut River Run
Hi Russ, Randy in MA here, I have the green restored 74 Vector with the 74 1500 in line. I'll try and make it to the River Run this year, hopefully we won't have that crazy rain raising the river like last year. I knew Jack Glasses Neely. I bought his picklefork D hydro from him in the early 80's. H...

Re: Hidden Messages in HydroStreams
I didn't see any under my deck when I was recoring. I spent a while on my back up there, so, plenty of profanity under the deck, but none of it written! It's a 74 before you worked there. I did find initials signed on the seat bottom wood for the back to back seats. I had to replace two of them but ...

Re: Pipkorn Hustler / craigslist
OOOPPPS forgot to mention Switzers were made in McHenry Illinois so maybe that is what people are remembering what came out of McHenry.

Re: Pipkorn Hustler / craigslist
I have a 69 Switzer Shooting Star with a 1500XS running an SSM lower on it, Very similar hull type, a front tunnel, back is flat. Carlson also had a similar style. First early tries at air entrapment. It's an old school blast does about 84 but, you need a mile or so to get to speed, rock solid at sp...
